Szuma Ch' ien, al fas Tzu-ch'ang,was a native of Han-cheng, Shen-si Province. Born to a welI-known family of historians, he authored Chinese first book of history, narrating the events and noted persons throughout 2,400 years from the Emperor Huong to Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. His work has been passed down through the ages and is stiII fresh and vibrant today. He has been honored as "the Father of Chinese Histor-iol.
