Pei Chu-I, alias Lo-Tien, also known as Mr. Drunk Poem-Chanter, was from Tai-yuan, Shan-hsi Province. At 27, he was conferred a "Chin-shih" title. Later he was appointed as a proof-reader and copy writer in the Secretariat. From there by repeated promotions, he had been one of the Emperor's Advocate Generals and Adjutant Beneral to the Prince. As a County Chief at Han-chow later on, Chu-I had supervised the dredging work of Lake West, making it a noted scenic spot south of Yang-tze River. Chu-I was a renowned writer and poet. His poems were all popular and easy to understand. His writing "Pei's WORK" was very famous too.
